Tile—whether it’s ceramic, porcelain, or stone—is one of the longest-lasting flooring materials in existence. But it still needs a bit of care. Basic, consistent maintenance of your tile or stone floor will ensure that it remains beautiful and trouble-free for many years.
Daily care & maintenance
Please be sure to reference your tile floor warranty for specific care requirements! But for your general information, here are some basic tips and facts.
Regularly sweep or vacuum your floor to remove dirt and grit.
Damp-mop once a week (or more often for heavy traffic areas) using a special cleaner we can recommend—just ask a JK carpet Center sales associate for guidance.
Always make sure the cleanser you use is a neutral pH compatible with grout cleaning. Never use detergent or soap, which can dull the surface or promote mildew growth. Cleaners should never contain acids, vinegar, chlorines, or ammonia, as these chemicals can damage and discolor both the grout and the stone or tile.
Use protective mats in entryways and pads under furniture legs.
Dealing with spills
Be sure to wipe any spills up promptly! In most cases, your everyday accidents and messes will clean up easily with a cloth.
More complex spills, such as wax or oil, require a more comprehensive approach. For these, you'll want to consult the manufacturer's guidelines for your specific tile.
It's also essential to use the right care products when cleaning tile and stone. Please use only manufacturer-approved products to extend your new floors' life and keep them looking as great as the day they were installed.
