HARDWOOD CARE & MAINTENANCE

To protect your lustrous hardwood floor and preserve its gleaming beauty for years to come, there are a few things to know. Whether it’s using the right cleaning techniques or taking care of spills, recommended hardwood maintenance is simple. Read on to learn more!

Daily care & maintenance

Sweep your hardwood floor regularly to loosen dirt, dust, and other particles that can otherwise get ground down and cause wear over time. Additionally, a vacuum cleaner without a beater bar can help clean in between planks and other hard-to-reach areas.

Occasionally wipe the floor with a damp mop or cloth to easily pick up dust from corners, under cabinets, and along baseboards.

Invest in good quality entry and exit mats to help collect dirt, sand, grit, and other substances that can be tracked onto your flooring. Do not use rubber- or foam-backed plastic mats as they may discolor the flooring.

Dealing with spills

Simply wipe hardwood floors clean after common messes like milk, coffee, pet accidents, and other everyday liquid spills. Hardwood floors that are designed with stain- and scuff-resistant technology will be very easy to wipe clean.

Clean up liquids as soon as possible since hardwood is not water-resistant. For messes such as nail polish, oil, or wax, it's important to consult with your manufacturer regarding proper cleaning products and procedures.

JK Carpet Center can recommend a professional hardwood floor cleaning product to safely remove tough stains and spills without dulling your floor's finish.

If your floors have a urethane finish, they should never be waxed and will require specific cleaners to avoid leaving a film or residue.
